Emily Wilson

Emily Wilson is professor of Classical Studies and graduate chair of the Program in Comparative Literature and Literary Theory at the University of Pennsylvania, where she also holds a named chair in the Humanities. She is the author of six books, the latest of which, a translation of Homer’s Odyssey, was published by Norton in 2017. It was chosen as one of the New York Times’s 100 Notable Books and described by The Guardian as ‘a cultural landmark…that exposes centuries of masculinist readings of the poem’. Emily holds a BA in Classics and an MPhil in Renaissance English Literature from Oxford University, and PhD from Yale. In 2019 she received a prestigious MacArthur Fellowship, in acknowledgement of her work ‘animating classical literature for new audiences’. Her translation of The Iliad is in progress.
